"Artificial intelligence" is actually an overstatement. The computer opponents simply checks the following conditions on each of their turns, and then decides how to act:

1. Check if there is a card in the center that will increase the hand points. If there are several possible cards, swap the card that generates the highest hand point value.
2. If there are several cards that, when exchanged, increase the hand points to the same value, swap with the hand card of the lowest value.
3. Check if it is better to swap the entire hand.
4. If a card exchange does not increase hand points, check the following:
a. If the hand points are more than 23 after the first round, knock.
b. If the hand points are more than 26 after the second round, knock.
c. If the hand points are more than 27 from the third round, knock.
d. If a. b. or c. do not apply, then pass.
