At the start, you can play any cards you want. There is no obligation to follow suit or to trump. Tricks are taken either by the higher card of the same suit or with trump cards. If two cards of different suits are played and none of them is a trump, then the first played card wins the trick. eg: Diamonds is atout (trump suit):
  • The first player plays the Queen of Hearts; the second the Ace of Hearts -> second player takes the trick (same suit)
  • The first player plays the Jack of Hearts, the second the Ace of Clubs -> first player takes the trick (different suit)
  • The first player plays the Ace of Clubs, the second the Jack of Diamonds -> second player wins (Atout)
